Rug Care & Cleaning
Our rugs are meticulously crafted with premium materials and expert craftsmanship. With proper care and cleaning, they are designed to last a lifetime.
Abrash
When yarn is hand-prepared, it often varies slightly in color and thickness. Consequently, when dyed, it doesn't absorb color uniformly, resulting in subtle stripes in the final rug known as "abrash." This irregularity is sought after in handmade rugs as it infuses them with vitality and personality. Rugs lacking abrash tend to appear dull and resemble machine-made ones.
At 11:11 Rugs, our rugs are thoughtfully designed with your spaces and activities in mind. Proper maintenance is key to preserving their elegance and durability. Regular vacuuming on a low suction setting, without using harsh cleaner heads, will prevent fibre damage. We also advise having your rug professionally cleaned at least once a year.
Initially, you might notice some shedding when you first lay out your rug. This is a normal result of loose fibres from the production process and can be managed with consistent vacuuming. If you spot any longer threads that were missed during shearing, simply trim them to the pile height using sharp scissors.
Moth Infestation
Similar to us, moths are attracted to the finest materials and thrive in quiet environments where their damage can easily go unnoticed. If you suspect that your 11:11 rug has fallen prey to moths, it's crucial to promptly seek assistance from a specialist for treatment and cleaning.
Traditional treatments like mothballs should be avoided, as they are not only ineffective but can also penetrate the fibers, causing damage upon removal. Regular vacuuming is essential for both treating and preventing moth infestations, as it helps eliminate eggs and disrupts the fibers, making the environment less inviting for moths.
Wool
From the beginning, we have cherished the natural durability of wool. Our wool is meticulously refined by hand, ensuring high quality for our rugs.
For significant stains and spills, it's best to consult a professional cleaning service. However, minor mishaps can often be managed at home. To spot clean, use a pH-neutral liquid soap diluted in lukewarm water. Avoid using too much water to prevent ‘browning,’ a condition where the wool becomes oversaturated and develops a brown stain.
When dealing with muddy footprints, allow the mud to dry before gently brushing it off. This will reveal the stain, which can then be spot cleaned or professionally treated. This method also works for stains from wax, pets, or babies.

Food Spills
Food spills are common, but you can quickly address them by using a baby wipe to blot the area and remove excess grease immediately.
Red Wine Stains
Red wine stains are infamous for their difficulty, and traditional remedies like salt and white wine can cause more damage than good. Avoid using anything acidic on your rug. Instead, apply a small drop of wool wash to the affected area with a clean, absorbent cloth and gently rub it into the surface. Work from the outer edges inward to prevent the stain from spreading. For oil-based spills, apply table salt to the affected area and gently dab with your finger to ensure it is fully absorbed.
Professional Help
If these methods don't work, contact a professional cleaner. Stains from ink, urine, or polish should be handled by a professional immediately.
Bamboo Silk
Bamboo silk, derived from one of the fastest-growing plants on Earth, offers a soft and tonal finish akin to traditional silk. To preserve its quality, place bamboo silk rugs in areas less prone to spills. If a spill occurs, promptly blot with a clean, absorbent material to remove excess liquid. For lingering stains, use a pH-neutral soap with minimal water. Overall, we highly recommend professional cleaning to maintain this material's beauty and integrity.

Fluff and Vacuuming
New rugs can shed some fluff due to excess fibers not fully integrated during the spinning process. This shedding is normal and doesn't indicate any issue with the rug's quality. Frequent vacuuming will help reduce this fluffing over time. If your vacuum cleaner has adjustable power settings, use a lower setting to avoid pulling out fibers. Additionally, avoid using cleaner heads with teeth to prevent damage to the rug.
Loose Threads
If a thread becomes loose in your rug, resist the urge to pull it. Instead, carefully cut it with sharp scissors. This simple step will not harm the rug and will keep it looking neat and tidy.
